I admit I enjoy seeing authors’ everyday kind of posts! It’s kind of fun seeing the ordinary life of an author but I enjoy the author-y parts too. I’m seeing more and more people leaving Instagram for their own reasons. I get it. I guess I just stay in my circle of bookish people and things are just kept light and happy. So I’m happy to stay in my little circle.

And lastly…OMG!!! The 10th Kingdom?! I ADORE that series! I was OBSESSED with it when it first came out! I’m geeking out over this and showing my age that I begged my mom to order the VHS tapes deluxe package with soundtrack and novelization back then too! Lol. I’ve since upgraded the VHS tapes to DVDs but still one of my all time favorite mini series!!!

Jessica!!! I also begged my parents for the 10th Kingdom VHS tapes and novelization as a kid (maybe 8yo??), and they were very kind and obliged. I make my kids watch all the movies at least once a month to keep the obsession alive, but my husband DESPISES them now 😂

As my dad would say, he likes it, he just doesn’t know it yet! 🤣

It’s hilarious because I’ll sometimes put it on when I go to bed, and he’ll wake up like a zombie the next morning because he stayed up until 3am watching it 🤡

I love film grain, artificial or not. And though I have loved looking at your Instagram I applaud you stepping away from it and honestly, reading this post felt like taking a deep, calming breath and makes me excited to enjoy those same kinds of things you now have more time for in my own life (and I haven’t even posted on Instagram on three years 😂). Enjoy your new freedom!

I love this. I’ve often felt the same about missing what insta used to be. I still love it, but I’ve definitely had to shift what I’m looking for when I open it. My own posts don’t really get seen, and for the most part I’m okay with that.

Loved this, it was so relatable. 💕 I had been thinking about sharing my photography again (as an amateur ) in a way that doesn't feel so curated or brand-driven, and you've inspired me to give it a shot. Also, I was so obsessed with 10th Kingdom and Wolf!! 😍

It's very special that you shared this! What you said made me reflect on how I use social media too. I want to be more present in my daily life too!

I feel all the echoes of these words, and I know my writer friends feel them too because we talk about this all the time. The push and pull of social media—the slog of maintaining a "brand" versus the genuine joy of connecting through shared moments. It’s exhausting, and I don’t even have a brand (or anything to really promote)! I miss the good old days of genuine community (at least that’s what it felt like). Maybe I was just naïve, but social media doesn’t feel the same anymore. It’s more landmine than goldmine. Everyone has an angle, and it seems like most of them would sooner bury you than befriend you. Ugh… That said, I’m so glad to hear how taking a step back has affected your own creativity, and I wish you ALL the fulfillment that comes with this new chapter. 💛
